I’m so sorry about the anxiety and related dry-heaves. On the positive side congratulations on Babel’ winning a 2022 Nebula! A terrific novel that turned me onto you and your brain. When you get to it, lease give us your doctoral reading list.

Yes to the reading list!! And I’m happy to see a difference perspective on the P&V translations. I’ve heard mixed reviews and am picking up my first Dostoevsky this summer as a reading goal. Translation discussions, I’ve found, are just as fascinating as any book!

Dearest Rebecca: I do so agree that the art has a life of its own once released ion public by the artist. Many times I need to remind my Middle School students. Do take the best of care and know how many people care for you and are who grateful as to what you provide us, intensifying the quality of our lives. I, too, would like for you to publish your reading list. I do so wish that I could have a conversation with you, for there are always many important topics about which I seek your insight. Having lived in Viet Nam, I had a hard time with “Body Counts.”It seemed a display of outdated post-structuralist criticism, quoting people like Said, Chomsky, Gayatri Spivak as instruments of interpretation. {I am not immune to this, for my BA University Honours Thesis was a Derridian analysis of the Ninth Chapter of Joyce’s "Ulysses.” } Though there is no comparison, ever, between Dostoevsky and another, I wonder if you have read “Life and Fate”by the Ukrainian writer Vasily Grossman. If not, I believe that you would like it. I am so patiently awaiting my copy of Yellowface from B&N, as well as well as from Waterstones> Not here yet! Did you see the review in this morning’s NYT:

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/16/books/review/yellowface-rf-kuang.html?smid=url-share

I was able, though, to download the aural reading from Audible. Yet, I am waiting so that I can engage myself with your superb fiction by holding your book book in my hands. Again,k I have so many topics that I would like to explore with your expertise as an author, a researcher, and a dedicated scholar. My home temples, with colleagues, friends, and insightful monastics are in Ha Long and Hue Viet Nam. A lotus for you dear Rebecca/ And, heart-felt gratitude/
