Dear Ms. Kuang: Without any dissimilitude, or exaggeration, your work is very dear to me and your news has brought me tears of happiness. When you state that the new historical novel is one that you have been waiting to write all of your life, my heart simply broke with gladness for you and the precious gift that you give to all of your loyal readers/ As is said in my tradition "you are, therefore I am.” ˜˜˜with my love in turn, and gratitude/
Very glad that more tickets opened up in Boston - my son will be there! Any chance that you might come to Chicago? My daughter and I are planning to go to St. Louis to see you there, but it'd be great to see you in the Windy City.
Also, congratulations on the upcoming books! I loved Babel and look forward to seeing what you will do with a modern historical novel. On that note, if you ever need any help on legal issues or research, please let me know! I'm a lawyer and former journalist who writes and speaks about Asian-American legal history, including a new newsletter here on Substack.
I don't know why they never send me to Chicago! I love the city - I was there all the time in undergrad to visit my fiance, and I'll happily get on a plane the moment they tell me someone wants to host me for an event :)
My daughter and I really enjoyed seeing you in St. Louis! I have lots of thoughts after hearing you speak and after finishing Yellowface over the weekend, but I'll keep myself to one follow-up question here.
You talked in St. Louis about the Lord of the Rings' importance to you, but what about the Silmarillion? I finally read it because my daughter loves it even more than the Lord of the Rings, and I'd love to know what you think of it.
I've been following for such a long time, and every time i see the mentions of a new book I need to do like a 5 min happy dance, because I've never really read something by an Author that has touched so many different issues and topics, and the writing has been mesmerizing, i cant wait for more, until then i'll be on my tiny conquest to gather every possible cover that comes out. Good luck!
Dear Ms. Kuang: Hope this finds you well and happy. I ordered two copies of Yellowface, one from Barnes and Noble and the other from Waterstones. At Barnes-N-Noble, they did confirm to me that their editon does indeed have your addendum. I was so glad that I remembered that point. Waterstones promises a very special edition and am looking forward to receiving their copy as well. I wanted to post this so that my fellow fans of RF Kuang will be reminded. You are an astounding writer who fills the world of your readers with beauty and magic/ many hugs, Brooke
